God made this great promise to Abram, later named Abraham. “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:” I want to focus on the last part of the verse, “thou shalt be a blessing”. I want to be a blessing to others. I am not a descendant of Abraham, but notice verse 3 says, “in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” That includes me. Also we read in Galatians 3:14, “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” I have received the blessing of Abraham through Jesus Christ, my Savior. As a Christian, I want to be a blessing to others. I want to let my light shine for my Lord. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16) Many today live in the darkness of sin. We can be a blessing to others when we let our light shine and glorify our heavenly Father.
