These verses remind me of the words of our Lord found in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” I was reading in the Thru The Bible Commentary books by J. Vernon McGee recently and he said that life is like a funnel. If you are on the broad way it is like going into the large end of the funnel and life gradually closes in around you. If you go in the straight and narrow way it is like going into the small end of the funnel and your life broadens about you. This is a good description of the Christian life. Before you are saved the sin in your life grips you tighter as time goes by and you become bound by the chains of sin. After you are saved and walking in God’s light and following the path where He leads, your chains of sin fall off and you realize what it is like to live free from the guilt and sin that you carried. You are a new person in Christ Jesus as we read in II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
