Since Jesus gave His life to die for our sin we are no longer under the law of the Old Testament, but Jesus repeats this commandment in the New Testament as the first and greatest commandment. “And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:28-30) These words are as true today as they were when Moses said them, and as important as when Christ said them. Our love for God should have priority in our lives, above all else. How much do we love the Lord our God? If our love was measured by the amount of time we spend reading His Word and talking with Him in prayer, how would we measure up? Can those around us see the love of God shining through our lives? Do we love Him with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and all our strength? That covers all aspects of our lives. Think of the best friend you have on earth. Now, would that person still consider you a best friend if you treated him or her as you treat God?
