Light

God Said, “Let There Be Light”

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”  Genesis 1:3

“God said…”  To better understand how this very first day of creation can apply to our lives let’s turn to the New Testament, the book of John.  The Apostle John referred to himself as “the one whom Jesus loved” and even though Jesus had earthly brothers, Christ left the care of His mother to John as part of His last Words on the cross.  We can find great insight from this close friend in John 1:1-5, 9-10 & 14.

“1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  The same was in the beginning with God.

3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…

9  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not…

14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

God spoke and brought light to a world of darkness.  The fall of Adam brought sin to God’s creation and once again the world experienced darkness.  God gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to bring Light to a lost world.  “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”  .(John 8:12)  In these first three verses of the Bible we have seen God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and God the Son.
