Into Thy Hands

“Father, Into Thy Hands I Commend My Spirit”

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.” Luke 23:46 & 47

Jesus said in John 10:17 & 18, “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.” As we have seen before, Jesus gave His life to save lost sinners. “He gave up the ghost.” We read of the last Passover, “Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;” (John 13:3) He knew that He would return to God. As we also read in Hebrews 10:12, “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” He came from the Father, and He returned to the Father. As we try to live as Christians should, day by day, it will help us if we also think on these thoughts. Our Christian life begins by accepting the Lord God as our Savior. We have the promise that we will go to heaven in the end. We are just “strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” (Hebrews 11:13) “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:1-3)
